AMIE Exam details

AMIE Exam is recognized equivalent engineering degree exam which is equivalent to BE / BTech. This course does not require presence in the class room. Therefore usually this course is taken by candidates who are in job. Any candidate who meets the specified eligibility criteria can become a graduate engineer. Thousands of candidates from India and abroad apply for AMIE exam.

AMIE Exam is recognized by all State Governments, Central Government., AICTE, UPSC, PSU etc as equivalent to B.E/B.Tech. AMIE exam passed candidate can apply for job in any sector and they can also choose the option of Higher Education.

AMIE( Associate Member of Institution of Engineers) exam is conducted by Institution of Engineers India. Only members of the Institution of Engineers are permitted to take AMIE exam.

The AMIE Examinations are conducted in June and in December. These are termed as SUMMER and WINTER Examination, respectively.

How to become a member of Institution of Engineers India

AMIE eligibility criteria

Following candidates are eligible for appearing in AMIE exam:
Technician members and senior technician members are eligible for appearing in exam.

Senior Technician (ST): Age of the candidate should not be less than 18 years on the date of application and should have accredited diploma in Engineering.

Technician (T): Age of the candidate should not be less than 17 years on the date of application and should have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) with Eng., Phys., Chem. & Maths./Degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or its Equivalent. Candidates who have passed with at least 45% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in aggregate in (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) Will be eligible. The candidate should have passed in English subject also.
Work Experience: one year under a qualified engineer before appearing in Section B examination.

Exam Overview
The Institution of Engineers conducts the following examinations:
Section A: exam for Non-Diploma Stream
Section A: exam for Diploma Stream
Section B: Exam for branch specific subject + Project work + laboratory work

Section B exam is conducted for following branches of Engineering:

Chemical Engineering
Textile Engineering
Computer Science & Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Mining Engineering
Production Engineering
Civil Engineering

AMIE first examination
The first examination that the candidates are eligible to appear is depending on their date of becoming a member.

Candidates enrolled between March 01 – August 31 are eligible to appear for the first time in Winter Examination to be held in Dec. (same year)

Candidates enrolled between September 01 – February 28/29 are eligible to appear for the first time in Summer Examination to be held in June (next year)

Duration for passing AMIE

The candidate should complete Section A examination within 6 years after the enrollment. Candidates can take up section B exam only after completing Section A exam. The candidate can complete section B exam in another 6 years. The candidate can appear in maximum four subjects in one semester.

Section A: exam for Non-Diploma Stream: 10 subjects
Section A: exam for Diploma Stream: 04 subjects
Section B: Exam for branch specific subject (09 subjects) + Project work + laboratory work (10 experiments)

Send Applications to the headquarters of the Institution as per the following schedule:

Candidates who did not appear at immediately preceding examination
February 15 – March 15 (for Summer Term)
August 17 – September 15 (for Winter Term)

Candidates appeared at immediately preceding examination
March 16 – April 14 (for Summer Term)
September 16 – October 15 (for Winter Term)
